ESC Engineers is an Energy Solutions Company from Hamburg, Germany. We are providing engineering, consulting and procurement services, as well as the implementation of EPC contracts.
We are operating in the upstream and midstream market onshore and offshore with a focus on LNG, wind, oil and gas.

Our Core Competence

Our core competence is the expertise and know-how of our team members and the development of a tailor-made Front End Engineering Design (FEED) based on a Design Development Methodology that focuses on a thorough understanding of the problem before working on a solution.

Our Philosophy

Drawing from year-long experience and a profound knowledge of projects, we know that a successfully completed project within budget and on time relies to a large extent on a consistent and thoroughly planned Front End Engineering. Analysis has shown that a strong basis supports the smooth execution of the project. It facilitates planning and avoids major changes during the implementation of the project which would inevitably lead to an increase in costs.

Our Concept

We start with a detailed analysis of the project’s requirements followed by a step-by-step evaluation and assessment of potential challenges and opportunities. Our methodology is risk-focused and never loses sight of your project’s time and budget. In a management process that is transparent, open and to the point, we provide you with a mature technical solution. We develop a customised Front End Engineering Design for your project.

Your Advantage

is our Approach. It

…Ensures a hitch-free execution of the project across all stages
…Focuses on the key success factors quality, time and budget
…Improves predictability and planning ability for the project
…Is based on a transparent and documented decision-making process

Tilman Schiegl

After completing my studies as Petroleum and Mining Engineer at the University of Clausthal, Germany I was trained as Production and Drilling Engineer at one of the leading German oil companies. There I gained experience as Drilling Manager and Coordinator for international exploration and production drilling campaigns both onshore and offshore and spent the majority of my time in oil producing countries on-site.

From 2004, as Managing Director of a German engineering office with more than 150 staff the focus again lay on international projects in the oil & gas sector.

With the energy turnaround from fossil-fuel energy to alternative energy sources, the development and management of offshore wind farms in the German EEZ in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea was added to my project portfolio. In addition, I was appointed Managing  Director of a Certification Agency accredited by the German BSH (Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency)

During my career I have been able to be part of the development of upstream projects through all stages from the initial development phases to detail design both as a client and as a consultant. My field of expertise lies in the upstream and midstream oil & gas sector, petroleum and renewables, onshore and offshore, field development, well construction, project management, offshore operations management.

Project locations included the North Sea, the Mediterranean, Black Sea, Caspian Sea, North Africa, East and West Africa and Central America.

Typical projects included

  • Management and coordination of drilling campaigns in Tunisia onshore and offshore (1997-1998)
  • Management and coordination of a field development (400 wells) in Albania (2002-2004)
  • Project Management for Detail Design of a gas plant and pipelines in West Africa (250,000 manhours) for a major IOC (2005-2007)
  • Project director, overseeing the planning approval procedure under mining / energy law, authority engineering and project completion of a major pipeline project in the Baltic Sea, oil field development in Rhineland-Palatinate (2012-2015, 2016, 2012-2014)
  • Project Management for the optimisation of a processing plant of a oil & gas condensate field in Kazakhstan (2012-2016)
  • Project Management, consulting and engineering for a 400MW Offshore Windpark BSH 1

Andreas Menze

I studied Civil Engineering at Carolo Wilhelmina University in Braunschweig, Germany and spent a year abroad at the NTNU and SINTEF in Trondheim, Norway to finish my thesis on coastal engineering.

In 2000 I joined a German Engineering Office as Civil Engineer mainly working for international projects in the oil & gas sector and in the German wind industry. I became head of division for the business subunits structural steel, reinforced concrete construction, geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics and marine engineering and was appointed technical director of a Certification Agency accredited by the German BSH (Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency).
In 2014, I became a member of the extended management board and held this position until I left the company in 2016.

At the beginning of 2017, Tilman Schiegl and I established our own business ESC Engineers GmbH.

My field of expertise is civil engineering, plant engineering and construction onshore and offshore, coastal engineering, project management

The majority of plant construction projects were located in Africa, from the tropical and subtropical regions of West Africa to the arid regions of the Libyan desert and in Kazakhstan, the Mediterranean, Venezuela and Oman.

Typical offshore projects for the oil & gas sector were located offshore West Africa, in the Mediterranean, the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea:

  • Management of various jacket and topside remodelling projects
  • Management of FPSO restructuring projects
  • Project Manager and Chief Engineer for the construction of an electrical substation for a major LNG production plant in Northern Norway

Typical offshore projects for the offshore wind sector in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea included:

  • Project Manager for an offshore accommodation platform in the North Sea built according to Eurocode regulations and the respective BSH standards
  • Project Manager and Chief Engineer for the construction of several meteorological masts  in the North Sea
